Introduction of Raadman R-Hydro Burner; The First Hydrogen Burner in the Middle East

As environmental concerns and strict regulations continue to rise, combustion systems are adapting to new conditions in order to meet the emerging demands of the clean-energy era. Hydrogen is now considered one of the most promising clean alternative fuels, gaining strong attention and investment worldwide. Although the transition toward pure green hydrogen has not yet begun in the Middle East, numerous petrochemical facilities currently flare high-value waste gases containing significant fractions of hydrogen.

One effective way to make use of these valuable gases is to burn them as fuel in furnaces and boilers, which requires specialized hydrogen burners. Due to the distinct physical and chemical properties of hydrogen, it cannot be used in conventional gas burners, and specially designed hydrogen burners are required. As the first case in Iran, a hydrogen-fired boiler, designed and manufactured at Fanavaran Petrochemical Company, has recently been commissioned by Packman, using surplus hydrogen as its fuel.

Using hydrogen as a fuel in boilers—whether it’s green hydrogen from water electrolysis or the gray hydrogen that is currently burned off in petrochemical flare systems—comes with several key benefits. It helps cut fossil-fuel consumption, reduces carbon dioxide emissions, and lowers the release of other pollutants.

In this context, Raadman, as a leading Iranian manufacturer of industrial burners, has introduced its new hydrogen burner to the domestic industry. These burners are capable of operating on a wide range of gaseous fuels—from pure hydrogen to natural gas and process gases found in petrochemical and refinery facilities. As the first Iranian burner capable of operating on 100% hydrogen, it has been specially designed for water-tube boilers to ensure a stable, safe flame that perfectly matches the furnace geometry.

This product was designed by the technical division of Raadman Industrial Group, and its optimization, aimed at achieving optimal flame features, minimal emissions, and reduced pressure drop, was conducted in Raadman’s R&D department using CFD simulations. The latest outcome of these efforts is the manufacture of the first 22 MW R-Hydro burner, which has been successfully tested.

Due to its adaptability to diverse gaseous fuels, capability to be manufactured in various capacities, and multiple operational advantages, the R-Hydro burner represents an excellent choice for water-tube boilers in the power generation, oil, gas, and petrochemical sectors.
